The Peugeot E-3008 Dual Motor delivers 321bhp through its all-wheel-drive system, making it the most powerful road car in Peugeot’s current lineup. The twin-motor setup addresses the performance shortcomings that held back the single-motor version.
Earlier testing of the single-motor E-3008 revealed a car with excellent styling and interior quality but underwhelming driving dynamics. The fastback design stands out in its class. The cabin materials surpass many premium competitors.
But the single-motor version felt sluggish and uninspiring to drive.
The dual-motor configuration changes that equation completely. A rear-mounted 111bhp motor joins the front unit to produce 375lb ft of torque. The result transforms the driving experience.
Interior Design and Technology
Both versions share identical exterior dimensions at 4.6 meters long. The striking floating grille and avant-garde fastback styling remain unchanged. Optional 20-inch diamond-cut alloys complete the look.
Inside, Peugeot’s quality control impresses. The sculpted dashboard centers around a curved 21-inch touchscreen. Nothing feels cheap or hollow. Wool-effect materials on the center console and doors add tactile appeal.
The interior lighting offers eight color options. The restful yellow works particularly well for night driving. Blue shades feel less harsh than comparable Mercedes systems.
Smaller i-Toggle screens provide shortcut access to Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, climate control, and driver assistance settings. The dual-motor version includes one-touch ADAS deactivation through the main screen.
This seemingly minor feature eliminates the frustrating menu navigation required to disable intrusive lane-keeping assistance.
Peugeot’s i-Cockpit takes adjustment time. The tiny steering wheel requires looking over rather than through it. Physical climate controls would improve usability. But once you adapt, the system works well.
Performance and Handling Upgrades
The second motor eliminates the single-motor’s performance deficiencies. Power delivery becomes linear and progressive rather than labored.
0-62mph acceleration drops to 6.4 seconds.
On German autobahn stretches, the dual-motor E-3008 consumed miles effortlessly. Road noise stayed minimal while the speedometer climbed rapidly.
The handling transformation surprised during testing. Steering weight increased and felt more responsive. Body roll decreased noticeably through corners. The car invites spirited driving rather than cautious progress.
According to Peugeot engineers, the chassis received significant updates beyond the second motor. Stiffer anti-roll bars, springs, and shock absorbers improve dynamics. The steering system also underwent revisions.
The all-wheel-drive system adds sure-footedness. AWD mode enables hill-descent control – an ambitious feature given the E-3008’s urban focus.
Both versions use Stellantis’s STLA Medium platform with 400-volt architecture. The 77kWh battery supports 160kW charging speeds. The dual-motor setup reduces range from 326 miles to 303 miles.
Practicality matches the single-motor version with 588 liters of boot space and comfortable seating for five.
Pricing and Availability
Peugeot hasn’t announced dual-motor pricing. The Launch Edition arrives this summer with Allure and GT trim levels following.
Current single-motor pricing starts at £45,960 for Allure specification. The GT begins at £49,340.
The dual-motor version will command a premium for its additional power and all-wheel-drive capability.
Market Position
The E-3008 Dual Motor creates a compelling package. The extra power and chassis improvements deliver a complete driving experience. Interior quality leads its class. The distinctive styling outshines anonymous competitors like the Volkswagen ID.4, Ford Explorer, and Tesla Model Y.
The updated Skoda Enyaq vRS arriving next month will provide the real benchmark test.
Brand perception remains the biggest challenge. The Peugeot badge lacks the prestige appeal that drives many British buyers. Performance and quality can’t overcome badge snobbery for some customers.
That represents a missed opportunity. Peugeot has delivered 140,000 E-3008 sales globally to date. Premium badges would likely multiply those numbers significantly.
