Renault has confirmed that the open-top Renault 4 Plein Sud is now available to order in the UK from £27,445 on the road. The vehicle qualifies for the UK Government’s full £3,750 electric car grant.
Based on the reborn Renault 4, the Plein Sud – meaning ‘due south’ in French – is the only B-segment EV to come with a fully-opening roof.
The only difference between the Plein Sud and the award-winning hard-top R4 is the removal of the roof bars and shark-fin antenna. This makes room for the electronically operated 80x92cm canvas roof, which gathers into three folds and can be opened in several positions.
Boot space remains unchanged at 1,350 litres with the rear seats folded.
Despite the open top design, none of the R4’s practicality has been compromised.
Available in mid-tier techno+ and range-topping iconic+ trim levels, the R4 Plein Sud uses the same 52kWh battery paired with a front-mounted 148bhp electric motor. This setup produces up to 242 miles of range. The 100kW fast-charging system provides a 15-80% charge in around 30 minutes.
Both trim levels come with one-pedal driving, dual-zone climate control, and run on the Google built-in operating system found in the regular R4 and best-selling Renault 5.
A 10-inch central touchscreen featuring the ‘Reno’ avatar sits in the centre of the Plein Sud’s dash. The driver gets a 10.3-inch instrument binnacle.
Standard Equipment and Safety Features
Keyless entry is standard across all models, as is vehicle-to-load functionality, adaptive cruise control, 60/40-split rear seats, and wireless smartphone charging. The vehicle includes a range of driver assistance and safety systems.
These include emergency stop assist, four levels of regenerative braking, lane keep assist, driver attention alert, and an external vehicle sound emitter for pedestrians.
The £27,445 Renault 4 Plein Sud techno+ gets 18-inch black diamond cut ‘Sixties’ alloy wheels as standard. Interior features include fully recycled denim upholstery offset by copper stitching.
For an extra £2,000, the £29,445 iconic+ comes with 18-inch black diamond-cut ‘Parisenne’ alloy wheels, an electronically operated boot, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.
The higher trim also includes a manually adjustable front seat with six-way lumbar support on the driver’s side.
The seats are upholstered in quilted black and houndstooth textile. The dashboard gets an illuminated ‘Renault 4’ logo and synthetic leather dashboard with contrasting yellow stitching.
A Harmon Kardon system is included in the iconic+ trim, along with blind-spot warning, sign recognition/speed alert, rear cross traffic alert, and rear occupant safe exit alert.
Color Options and Ordering
The R4 Plein Sud is available in six body colors across both trim levels. These include Hauts-de-France Green, which pays tribute to the Île-de-France Blue of the 1960s, as well as Glacier White, Urban Grey, Diamond Black, Cumulus Blue, and Carmin Red.
Customers with the Renault R Pass can now order their Renault Plein Sud. Those without the pass will have to wait until May 14 to place their orders.
Deliveries are expected from Q3 2026.
