Toyota has set pricing for its first electric Hilux pickup truck, with orders starting June 1.
The Hilux BEV starts at £57,845 – about £9,000 more than the equivalent 48V diesel hybrid that also launches next month. But the UK’s Plug-In Van Grant cuts £5,000 off that price, bringing it down to £52,845.
Toyota’s going with just the four-door Double Cab version at launch.
A two-door option might come later. Customer deliveries begin in July.
The electric Hilux comes in two trim levels instead of the four you get with the diesel version. The base Icon includes alloy wheels, side steps, off-road driving modes, heated seats and a 12.3-inch touchscreen with smartphone connectivity.
Step up to Invincible – priced at £60,695 before the grant – and you get LED headlights, leather seats, power-adjustable driver’s seat and a 12-inch digital display.
How It Stacks Up
That pricing undercuts the Isuzu D-Max EV, which costs £59,995 before VAT or grants. The D-Max, though, can haul more weight and tow heavier loads than the Toyota.
The Hilux BEV’s expected payload tops out around 715kg compared to the D-Max’s one-tonne capacity. Towing capacity should hit about 1,600kg versus the Isuzu’s 3.5-tonne rating.
Electric pickup sales have been slow to take off, but three models have reached UK dealers this year.
KGM recently started selling its Musso EV at £47,495 before grants – making it the cheapest electric pickup option for now.
