Toyota has revealed a glimpse of its upcoming all-electric coupe-crossover set to debut on March 11.
The new EV appears to be the production version of the bZ Compact Crossover concept unveiled in 2022. It will position between Toyota’s existing electric models — the bZ4X and the Urban Cruiser.
Toyota’s teaser includes just a single shadowy image and brief video, but suggests the production model will closely follow the concept’s aerodynamic design.
The footage reveals a significantly lower, sleeker profile than Toyota’s current EVs, featuring a rising and falling belt line beneath the windows. Its long bonnet has an almost saloon-like appearance, while the fastback-style tailgate incorporates full-width LED tail lights.
If the new model maintains the bZ Compact’s dimensions of 4.5m by 1.89m, it will compete with the Volvo EC40, Smart #3, Skoda Enyaq Coupe and Ford Capri.
While Toyota hasn’t shared technical specifications, the vehicle will likely use the same e-TNGA platform as the bZ4X. This could mean similar powertrain options — either a 201bhp front-wheel-drive or 215bhp all-wheel-drive configuration. Both versions in the bZ4X use a 71.4kWh battery providing up to 270 miles of range.
The name remains unconfirmed. When the concept debuted, industry observers suggested it might be called bZ3X to indicate its position in Toyota’s electric lineup. However, this naming pattern seems to have been abandoned with the Urban Cruiser, and the new model might instead draw from Toyota’s heritage.
This release represents another step in Toyota’s electrification strategy. The manufacturer plans to have six all-electric models available by 2026, with SUVs forming the majority. A coupe-SUV companion to the Urban Cruiser and a larger SUV positioned above the bZ4X are expected within the next 18-22 months.
