Toyota announced its new Urban Cruiser compact electric vehicle will launch December 1 with pricing starting at £29,995.
The Urban Cruiser becomes Toyota’s entry-level EV offering. It’s designed to compete directly with models like the Skoda Elroq, Kia EV3, Volvo EX30 and the closely related Suzuki E Vitara.
Three Trim Levels Available
Toyota’s offering three configurations at launch – each with different battery and motor combinations.
The base Icon trim starts at £29,995 and comes with a 49kWh battery pack. That’s paired with a 106kW motor delivering up to 213 miles of range on a single charge.
Icon models include 18-inch alloy wheels and dual digital displays – a 10.1-inch multimedia screen and 10.25-inch instrument cluster. Standard features cover smartphone mirroring, adaptive cruise control, and air conditioning with an energy-saving heat pump.
Safety tech includes a rear view camera, blind spot monitor, lane trace assist and road sign assist.
The Design trim costs £33,495 and upgrades to the larger 61kWh battery with a more powerful 128kW motor. Range increases to 264 miles, though DC charging tops out at 67kW.
Design models add heated front seats and steering wheel, auto-retracting heated door mirrors, and a windscreen wiper de-icer.
Premium Excel Specification
The range-topping Urban Cruiser Excel starts at £35,745 and uses the same 61kWh battery and 128kW motor combination as the Design.
Excel trim upgrades to 19-inch alloy wheels and adds premium features like a JBL sound system, wireless smartphone charging, and a sunroof. Interior materials include part synthetic leather upholstery.
Additional tech includes LED headlights with adaptive high-beam and a surround view camera system. Metallic or bi-tone paint finishes are available as options.
Unlike its platform partner the Suzuki E Vitara, Toyota isn’t offering an all-wheel-drive variant of the Urban Cruiser.
Orders open Monday, December 1, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2026.
