Vauxhall unveiled the first images of its new Corsa GSE this week, marking what company officials call a defining moment for the performance badge.

The electric hot hatch leans heavily into the brand’s performance heritage. It channels the spirit of classics like the Nova GSi and Corsa VXR through its white paintwork, body kit and retro interior finish.

The Corsa GSE delivers 277bhp – making it the most powerful Corsa ever built and the fastest production Vauxhall currently on sale.

With a 0-62mph time of 5.5 seconds, it’s also one of the quickest cars ever to wear a Vauxhall badge. Only the V8-powered Monaro and the Lotus Carlton have posted faster acceleration times.

Shared Platform Technology

The Corsa GSE shares its technical foundation with several Stellantis performance models. These include the Mokka GSE, Abarth 600e, Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce and the upcoming Peugeot E-208 GTI.

Its front-mounted motor produces 281bhp and 254lb ft of torque. A 51kWh battery supplies the energy.

Sport mode unlocks the full power output. Normal mode delivers 228bhp, while Eco mode helps extend range when the battery runs low.

Performance Hardware

Vauxhall fitted a mechanical Torsen limited-slip differential to manage the power delivery. Four-piston Alcon performance brakes handle stopping duties.

The GSE sits on lowered suspension with bespoke axles, stabilizers and shock absorbers. Engineers developed GSE-specific tuning for the steering, brakes and throttle response.

Based on its Stellantis stablemates’ performance, the Corsa GSE should deliver an engaging driving experience.

Design Updates

While less radical than the Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo concept, the production model gets visual updates to distinguish it from regular Corsa variants.

Key exterior changes include:

  • Sharper front and rear bumpers
  • Wider wheel arches
  • Gloss black air intakes contrasting with bright white paint
  • Three-spoke 18-inch alloys inspired by the Nova GSE’s 14-inch Ronal designs
  • Black roof and spoiler

The interior pays homage to the original Nova. New sports seats feature integrated headrests finished in black, grey and yellow chequered material.

Yellow contrast stitching appears throughout the cabin. Alcantara finish on the steering wheel and door cards reinforces the GSE’s sporty positioning.

Pricing and Availability

The Corsa GSE will make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show in October. Vauxhall plans to release more details at that time.

Given the pricing of other models using similar technology, expect a starting price in the mid-£30,000s.
