Vauxhall has announced pricing for its new Mokka GSE and confirmed that the performance crossover qualifies for the UK’s Electric Car Grant.
The Mokka GSE – Vauxhall’s fastest EV – is available to order now priced from £36,995. With the ECG applied, that cuts the cost to £35,495, undercutting the related Abarth 600e Scorpionissima by £2,900.
The Mokka GSE shares its powertrain with the single-series Mokka GSE Rally competition car. It’s based on the same tuned underpinnings as the Abarth and the Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce.
It features a 276bhp front-mounted motor that gets it from 0-62mph in just 5.9 seconds. That’s a 122bhp upgrade over the regular Mokka which cuts the 0-62mph sprint by 3 seconds.
Performance Upgrades
Along with a more powerful motor, the Mokka enjoys a retuned chassis with stiffer suspension and anti-roll bars. The upgrades include uprated brakes, retuned steering and a Torsen mechanical limited slip differential.
If the Abarth is anything to go by, that should mean a genuinely engaging drive experience.
The battery remains the same 54kWh unit used in regular Mokkas. In the Mokka GSE this offers 201 or 209 miles of range depending on tyre choice, and charges at up to 100kW.
Styling and Interior Updates
Visually, the Mokka GSE has been given a rally-inspired makeover with more aggressive gloss black bumpers featuring performance inlets and GSE badging. The package includes gloss black trim and black skid plates.
The roof is finished in black and all GSEs come on 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels with yellow-painted callipers for the 380mm Alcon front brakes.
Inside, the Mokka’s cabin has been upgraded with GSE heated bucket seats finished in black Alcantara with contrast stitching. The interior updates include Alcantara door trims, aluminium sports pedals, and a brushed-metal effect dashboard.
As befits the range-topping model, the GSE shares much of its equipment with the high-spec Ultimate trim. Standard features include:
- Matrix LED adaptive headlights
- Heated seats and steering wheel
- 10-inch touchscreen with live navigation and connected services
- Wireless Apple and Android mirroring
Vauxhall’s full suite of driver assistance, including adaptive cruise control and lane centring, is also standard.
While the Mokka GSE is currently Vauxhall’s fastest car, it’s indicated that a Corsa GSE is in the pipeline. Using the same underpinnings as the Mokka and the inbound Peugeot E-208 GTI, this smaller, lighter car could be even quicker.
