Vok Bikes has agreed to a production deal with Renault that’ll increase manufacturing capacity by ten times. The cargo bike specialist will set up a new line at Renault’s Refactory plant in Flins, France.
The partnership combines Renault’s manufacturing expertise with Vok’s urban delivery technology. Vok builds zero-emission vehicles designed specifically for crowded city centers.
The company’s bikes come in three configurations and handle loads up to 200kg. In-wheel motors provide four-wheel-drive capability with a 15mph top speed and 60-mile range.
Targeting Urban Delivery Markets
Vok’s bikes target last-mile delivery companies, tradespeople, and food delivery services operating in congested areas like London. Businesses face increasing pressure to reduce their environmental impact and navigate tight urban spaces.
The Refactory plant serves as Renault’s main facility for sustainable manufacturing. It focuses on extending vehicle lifecycles and promoting circular economy practices.
Manufacturing at the facility gives Vok access to automotive-grade quality standards and sustainability practices.
Indrek Petjärv, Vok Bikes CEO, said the partnership will accelerate expansion plans.
“Vok Bikes aims to redefine how businesses move goods in cities by offering a highly scalable, practical, and environmentally responsible alternative to traditional delivery vans,” Petjärv said.
“Our collaboration with the Refactory plant of Renault Group enables us to significantly accelerate the rollout of cargo bikes and strengthen our position as the UK market leader. You’re going to be seeing a lot more of us in London and other UK cities in the coming months and years.”
Booming Urban Market
Electric cargo bikes avoid congestion charges and ultra-low emission zone fees – making them attractive for urban operators. Their compact size allows access to areas where vans can’t operate efficiently.
Usage in London doubled between 2022 and 2024.
Transport for London published a cargo bike action plan in 2023 projecting that cargo bikes could handle 17% of van journeys by 2030. The shift represents a significant opportunity for companies like Vok as cities push for cleaner delivery methods.
The Renault partnership positions Vok to capture more of this growing market through increased production capacity and improved manufacturing processes.
