The Volkswagen Group posted strong electric vehicle numbers for the first half of 2025 – deliveries jumped 47% globally and nearly doubled in Western Europe, according to company officials.

The automotive giant delivered 465,500 all-electric models worldwide between January and June. That’s a significant increase from the same period last year.

Western Europe drove much of the growth with 347,900 EV deliveries – representing a 90% surge from 2024’s first half.

Porsche led the charge with EV deliveries soaring 279% as customers received their new Macan Electric SUVs and updated Taycan models. The sports car brand’s electric lineup proved popular with buyers looking for performance EVs.

Skoda also posted strong numbers alongside Porsche’s success.

Seat and Cupra brands saw impressive growth of 148% – ten times higher than Volkswagen’s own performance. The Spanish brands expanded their electric range with the Tavascan SUV joining the Born hatchback in showrooms.

Volkswagen’s deliveries increased just 14%, but the ID.4 and ID.5 models remained the group’s bestsellers with 84,900 units delivered globally. The ID.3 hatchback ranked third in group sales, ahead of the Audi Q4 e-tron and VW ID.7.

New Models Drive Performance

Several fresh launches helped boost the group’s overall performance. The new Macan, Skoda Elroq, and Audi Q6 e-tron reached customers for the first time this year.

Updated versions of existing models also contributed – including refreshed VW ID Buzz and Skoda Enyaq variants.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles posted a 74% increase in electric deliveries as the new T7 Transporter BEV entered the market alongside the ID Buzz van.

“The Group continues to have strong momentum thanks to many newly launched models. This applies especially to all-electric vehicles, with global deliveries up by around 50 per cent in the first half of the year compared to the same period last year.”

Marco Schubert, executive committee member for sales, highlighted the European performance specifically.

“This trend was particularly strong in Europe, with growth of around 90 per cent. One in five of the vehicles we delivered in Western Europe is now purely electric. The corresponding orders are also developing dynamically: they increased by more than 60 per cent.”

Regional Performance Varies

Europe and South America offset declines in other key markets. The United States saw deliveries drop 5% while China posted a 33% decrease – both expected results according to Schubert.

The strong European performance reflects growing EV adoption across the region as charging infrastructure expands and model availability increases. Western Europe now accounts for one in five Volkswagen Group deliveries being fully electric.

Order books suggest the momentum will continue – the group reported order increases of more than 60% compared to the first half of 2024.

The Volkswagen Group’s brands include Volkswagen, Seat, Cupra, Skoda, Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, and Porsche across multiple market segments.
