Volkswagen has launched a Black Edition trim for its ID.4 SUV and ID.5 SUV coupé electric vehicles. The new package adds visual upgrades and interior enhancements at a reduced price.

The Black Edition includes 19-inch Onyx black alloy wheels and a panoramic glass sunroof. Black exterior mirror housings complement blacked-out rear nameplates, while high-gloss black trim covers the roof and rear pillar.

Interior upgrades center on VW’s Top-Sport ‘Plus’ package.

Black front sports seats feature integrated head restraints, electronically-adjustable lumbar support, and massage function. The seats use VW’s ArtVelours microfleece upholstery material.

The aesthetic package normally costs £4,625 but adds just £1,780 to entry-level Match models.

Pricing and Specifications

The ID.4 Black Edition starts at £46,180 for rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive ID.4 Black Edition 4Motion costs £47,900. The ID.5 Black Edition – available only in rear-wheel drive – starts at £47,680.

All models use a 77 kWh battery producing 286bhp.

Rear-wheel drive models deliver 336 miles of range in the ID.4 and 341 miles in the more aerodynamic ID.5. The ID.4 Black Edition 4Motion’s all-wheel drive system adds a front-mounted electric motor for better grip but doesn’t increase power output. Range drops to 322 miles with the dual-motor setup.

Market Performance

VW has overcome early software and infotainment issues with its ID electric vehicle lineup. According to recent sales data, the ID.3 ranked as the UK’s second-best selling EV in April 2025.

The ID.7 and ID.4 claimed third and fourth place respectively in UK electric vehicle sales.

VW-owned Skoda’s Elroq compact SUV topped the charts with 7,998 units sold since its early 2025 debut.
