Volvo has cut prices on its compact EX30 electric SUV by £1,500 while waiting for the UK Government to announce which manufacturers qualify for the new Electric Car Grant.

The Government hasn’t revealed which carmakers will be eligible for the ECG – a program that reduces new EV prices by £1,500 to £3,750. Several brands including Hyundai, Renault, Vauxhall, and Leapmotor have introduced their own temporary discounts during the delay.

Volvo’s now joined that group with across-the-board price cuts.

The discount brings the entry-level EX30 Core down to £31,560. The mid-range Plus starts at £33,660, while the top Ultra model costs £41,860.

Price Cuts Extend Beyond EX30

Volvo’s expanded the discounts beyond its compact SUV.

The rugged EX30 Cross Country – which features black protective cladding – also gets the £1,500 reduction, bringing its price to £45,560. The company’s also cut costs on its larger EVs, with the EX40 down £1,500 and the EC40 reduced by £2,000.

Rob Deane, Volvo UK’s commercial director, praised the move in a statement.

“The multi award-winning Volvo EX30 is a fantastic product, which doesn’t compromise between design, safety or sustainability, and we are delighted to be able to offer this enhanced EV offer for Volvo customers.”

“It’s fantastic to see a strong surge in media attention and customer demand towards EV ownership since the Government’s announcement,” Deane added.

Built for Sustainability

The EX30 represents Volvo’s smallest electric SUV. It’s constructed using recycled materials and runs on parent company Geely’s dedicated electric platform called Sustainable Experience Architecture.

That focus on green manufacturing shows in the numbers.

The EX30 produces just 23 tonnes of CO₂ during its entire lifespan – equivalent to 200,000 miles of driving. That makes it the lowest-carbon Volvo ever built.

Since committing to an all-electric future, Volvo’s made sustainability a key focus across its lineup. The company’s full-sized luxury sedan, the ES90, also produces a smaller carbon footprint than both the EX40 and EC40, as well as the combustion-engine S90 it replaces.

The temporary discounts will likely remain in place until the Government announces official ECG eligibility criteria.
