Volvo has added a more affordable rear-wheel drive option to its all-electric EX90 SUV lineup, with orders now open starting at £82,660.
The new single-motor variant costs nearly £14,000 less than the previous entry-level twin-motor all-wheel drive model.
Mounted on the rear axle, the single motor produces 276bhp and 361 lb ft of torque, completing the 0-62mph sprint in 8.4 seconds. Like all Volvo electric vehicles, its top speed is limited to 112 mph for safety reasons.
The rear-wheel drive EX90 comes with a 100kWh battery – smaller than the 107kWh units in pricier versions – yet delivers a longer range of 380 miles on a single charge, outperforming its all-wheel drive counterpart by 16 miles.
Charging capabilities remain consistent across all EX90 models, with speeds up to 250kW supported.
Volvo has also introduced a new base ‘Plus’ trim focused on comfort across the EX90 range. Standard features include four-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, head-up display, 14.5-inch touchscreen, and 360-degree parking assistance. Twin-motor versions additionally receive air suspension and adaptive dampers.
The Swedish manufacturer’s updates extend beyond its flagship electric SUV. The EX30 Cross Country crossover will be priced from £47,060 when it launches later this year.
For the EC40 and EX40 models, Volvo has upgraded the battery capacity from 78kWh to 82kWh. This improvement extends the EC40’s range to 360 miles (up from 346) and the EX40’s to 358 miles (previously 343).
These models will also receive Volvo’s new Qualcomm-based infotainment system – the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform – which delivers faster response times and quicker graphics generation compared to the previous system.
The newer EX30, EX90, and upcoming ES90 models already feature this Qualcomm infotainment technology as standard.
