Volvo’s expanding its EX30 electric SUV lineup for 2026 with a new entry-level variant that’ll significantly lower the starting price for the compact crossover.
The Swedish automaker announced the updates will bring what it calls “big improvements” to the EX30 – focusing on easier operation and added functionality like vehicle-to-load charging capability.
The standout addition is a lower-powered base model that uses a 148-horsepower motor paired with the existing 51kWh battery pack.
Range comes in at 211 miles on a single charge. That’s actually two miles better than the current entry-level EX30, which uses a more powerful 268-horsepower rear motor with the same battery size for 209 miles of range.
Volvo’s also offering the new motor with the larger 69kWh battery pack – boosting range to 296 miles.
Pricing and Availability
The company hasn’t confirmed UK pricing or launch timing for the new base model yet. But if it arrives, it should create a meaningful price drop from the current £33,060 starting point.
The EX30 Cross Country gets its first single-motor option as well.
Volvo hasn’t detailed the specifications, but it’s likely the same 268-horsepower setup used elsewhere in the range. A new Plus trim level will slot below the current Ultra specification – the only Cross Country option right now.
Both changes should make the Cross Country more accessible from its current £47,000 starting price.
Interior Updates
Two new interior packages are joining the lineup.
The ‘Harvest’ option draws inspiration from late Scandinavian summer evenings. It features light-colored woven upholstery paired with contrasting Nordico material – both made from recycled content.
The ‘Black’ interior uses deep-black Nordico upholstery with natural dark flax trim throughout.
The EX30’s touchscreen interface is getting a complete redesign to improve access to frequently-used controls.
Volvo says the screen-based system has been rebuilt from the ground up. A customizable content bar will allow drivers to create personalized shortcuts for common functions.
New Charging Capability
Bidirectional charging capability is being added across the range through vehicle-to-load technology.
This allows the EX30 to power external devices – everything from power tools to camping equipment.
Both the V2L charging feature and the updated interface will arrive through over-the-air software updates during summer 2025. New and existing EX30 owners will receive the improvements at no additional cost.
The timing comes as Volvo recently recalled 44,000 EX30s equipped with the larger battery pack due to a battery fault that creates fire risk.
