Volkswagen has rolled out updates to its ID.4 SUV and ID.5 SUV lineup, bringing physical steering wheel controls, vehicle-to-load capability, and enhanced battery configurations to its electric vehicle range.

The German automaker’s changes target improved usability and efficiency across both model lines.

ID.4 Gets Power and Range Boost

The entry-level ID.4 Pure models receive the most noticeable improvements. Battery capacity jumps from 52kWh to 58kWh, while power output increases from 168bhp to 187bhp.

Range extends from 222 miles to 265 miles – a gain of 43 miles per charge.

Pricing holds steady at £36,995 for Pure models despite the upgrades. VW’s mid-tier Pro versions see their 77kWh battery grow to 79kWh, though power stays at 282bhp and range remains at 347 miles. These models now start at £37,565.

The ID.4 Black Edition maintains its performance specs but carries a new £47,570 price tag.

All-wheel drive variants get more power. The Pro Match 4Motion and Pro Black Edition 4Motion models keep their 77kWh batteries but see power climb from 282bhp to 294bhp. Range improves to 341 miles across both configurations.

Both AWD models come with a £570 price increase – the Pro Match 4Motion starts at £47,510 while the Pro Black Edition 4Motion begins at £49,530.

The range-topping ID.4 GTX 4Motion retains its 335bhp output but gains four additional miles of range, reaching 336 miles total. This flagship model now costs £53,565, representing a £665 increase.

ID.5 Mirrors ID.4 Changes

The ID.5 receives similar updates across its lineup. Entry-level Pure Match models keep their £36,995 starting price while battery capacity expands from 52kWh to 58kWh.

Power increases match the ID.4 – rising to 187bhp with range extending from 227 to 272 miles.

Pro trim ID.5 models maintain 282bhp output but gain seven miles of range, reaching 351 miles total. Pricing starts at £37,565 for these variants. Black Edition models deliver the same performance figures but begin at £49,040.

The ID.5 GTX 4Motion keeps its 335bhp power rating while offering 331 miles of range. This top-spec model starts at £55,055.

Additional Improvements

Both updated models now offer an optional heat pump for improved efficiency. Towing capacity increases to 1,800kg on 4Motion variants – a meaningful upgrade for buyers needing hauling capability.

Pure Essential trim levels get 19-inch steel wheels as standard equipment.

Pure Match variants now include an electric tailgate without additional cost. An optional 230V power socket extends vehicle-to-load functionality across both model ranges, allowing owners to power external devices from their vehicle’s battery.

The updates reflect VW’s efforts to address early ID series criticisms while improving practical usability for electric vehicle buyers.
