Purple Disco Machine has teamed up with Volkswagen to showcase the limited edition ID.3 GTX ‘Fire & Ice’ in a new 1980s-inspired music video. The collaboration brings together Dresden-born DJ Tino Piontek and former Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears for a reimagined version of the track “Fire + Ice.”
The special edition electric vehicle pays homage to the legendary Mk2 Golf Fire & Ice from 1990. That original model drew inspiration from the cult German ski-themed action movie “Fire and Ice” from 1986.
VW will produce just 1,990 units of the ID.3 GTX Fire & Ice to commemorate the debut year of its predecessor.
Design Elements Honor the Original
The ID.3 GTX Fire & Ice features the same deep violet paint scheme that made the original Golf model iconic. VW has added the period-correct Fire & Ice logo to the roof spoiler as a direct nod to the 1990 predecessor.
Several design touches set this model apart from the standard ID.3 GTX. The C-pillar displays a geometric F+I pattern that creates visual continuity with the theme.
Striking 20-inch Locarno alloy wheels come in a two-tone purple and silver finish. Red anodized roof strips add another layer of visual interest to the vehicle’s profile.
The attention to detail extends to the door mirror puddle lights – the passenger side projects a flame logo representing fire, while the driver’s side shows a snowflake for ice. VW has also tinted the LED tail lights exclusively for this limited edition.
Interior Continues the Theme
Inside, the Fire + Ice concept comes to life through contrasting seat colors. The passenger headrest is blue while the driver’s headrest is orange.
Both seats feature styling inspired by Bogner padded ski jackets. This reference connects directly to Willy Bogner, who both financed the original “Fire & Ice” film and founded the luxury German ski brand Bogner.
Blue and orange stitching appears throughout the cabin on the steering wheel, instrument panel, door trims, and floor mats. VW has incorporated matching logos to maintain the theme’s consistency.
Music Video Collaboration
The music video features both the new ID.3 GTX and the original Golf Mk2 Fire & Ice. Purple Disco Machine produced the track while Jake Shears provided vocals for the reimagined version of the film’s title song.
The collaboration showcases funk-inspired synth pop with heavy 1980s influences. The video serves as the debut platform for the limited edition electric vehicle.
