Xpeng has claimed both the best range performance and fastest charging speed in this summer’s El Prix testing, the world’s largest electric vehicle range competition organized by the Norwegian Automobile Federation (NAF) and Motor magazine.
The Chinese automaker’s seven-seat X9 MPV delivered 401 miles of real-world range – beating its official WLTP rating by 11.4%. That’s the largest positive deviation recorded among all 24 EVs in the test.
The X9 also dominated charging speeds.
It powered from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes and 55 seconds using a 400kW ultra-fast charger. During February’s winter El Prix, the same vehicle led charging times again with a 12-minute result in temperatures dropping to -10°C.
Alex Tang, Xpeng’s international business manager, said the results prove range anxiety is becoming outdated.
“Customers should not have to choose between long range and fast charging. The X9 delivers both, helping drivers spend more time on the road and less time waiting at a charger.”
Tang called the dual victory “strong validation of the technology behind the Xpeng X9.”
Record-Breaking Year for Xpeng
The El Prix success follows another milestone for the AI-focused brand this year. Xpeng’s G6 SUV completed a 621-mile run at Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire, finishing in eight hours, 25 minutes, and 10 seconds including charging stops.
That achievement made Xpeng the first manufacturer to drive 620 miles in under 10 hours using an unmodified production car.
The company credits its 800V electrical architecture as a key factor behind both vehicles’ performance.
The X9 will arrive in the UK later this year as the second model in Xpeng’s UK line-up alongside the G6. It’ll compete directly with the Hyundai Staria, Kia PV5, and Volkswagen ID. Buzz in the premium electric MPV segment.
