Zeekr 7X Sets World Record for Fastest-Charging SUV

The Zeekr 7X has set a new benchmark for electric vehicle charging speeds, reaching 80% battery capacity in just nine minutes and 45 seconds from a 10% starting point.

Out of Spec Reviews host Kyle Connor documented the achievement at a Zeekr charging station in Chengdu, China, using the SUV’s 75kWh lithium-ion phosphate (LFP) battery.

The charging station operates at 840kW — more than double the typical 350-400kW limit found at most European and U.S. charging points.

During the test, the charging speed started at 200kW before climbing to 400kW through most of the charging session. The system peaked at 460kW before settling back to 400kW. For comparison, Tesla’s Supercharger network maxes out at 325kW, while Ionity chargers top out at 350kW.

The complete charging session from 0-100% took 19 minutes. The more commonly used 10-80% charge added range at a rate equivalent to 1,270 miles per hour — approximately 21 miles per minute.

These speeds are possible through Zeekr’s LFP “Golden Battery” technology. The system, announced in 2023, uses 800V architecture and what parent company Geely calls “newly developed materials” and “simplified structural design.”

The Golden Battery supports a 5.5 C-rate charging capability — meaning it can charge at 5.5 times its total capacity safely. The Tesla Model S, by comparison, has a 2.5 C charging rate.

Zeekr offers this battery technology in its 007 sedan, with potential future availability across other Geely-owned brands including Polestar, Volvo, Lotus, and Smart.

The manufacturer has launched a European configurator for the 7X, with prices ranging from €55,990 to €62,990 for the Performance AWD model. UK availability has not been announced.
