Property service Zoopla has partnered with Vauxhall to help house-hunters find homes with EV charging points, according to company officials.

The collaboration allows buyers and renters to filter properties with private home charging. Users can also locate the nearest on-street chargers to any property they’re considering.

Vauxhall’s research revealed 40% of UK drivers said proximity to a charge point would influence their next home choice.

That figure jumps to 87% among current EV owners. A third of drivers said lack of accessible charging would put them off a property entirely.

The partnership supports Vauxhall’s Electric Streets campaign – an ongoing project identifying areas that need shared on-street charging. With around 40% of households lacking driveways, accessible public charging is vital for the transition to electric cars.

New Search Features

The Zoopla website and app now display the closest on-street charge points to individual properties. The feature works similarly to existing tools for schools and train stations.

Data comes from map and location information supplied by Octopus Electroverse.

House hunters can filter searches to show only properties with home charging wallboxes.

“Moving house is one of the biggest decisions most of us make in our lifetime, and anyone who’s done it knows how much effort can go into finding the perfect home,” said Steve Catlin, managing director of Vauxhall. “As EVs become an even more common sight on our roads, more and more people will be prioritising charging access when thinking about where to live.”

Catlin emphasized Vauxhall’s commitment to electrifying Britain. He called Zoopla “the perfect partner” to help drivers find homes that allow easy EV charging.

“Whether charging at home or on-street, we hope the features we have worked with Zoopla to introduce go some way to make decisions around buying and renting a new home that little bit easier for millions across the country.”

Market Response

Daniel Copley, consumer expert at Zoopla, highlighted the industry-first nature of the partnership.

“We’re proud to be the first property website to offer consumers the ability to find the nearest on-street chargers to a property, and filter properties with home-charging.”

He noted that buyer requirements constantly evolve due to lifestyle changes and commuting patterns. The improved search functionality aims to empower more confident moving decisions for current and future EV owners.

Vauxhall’s research found 54% of drivers said tools identifying and filtering for EV chargers would be useful on property sites.

However, Zoopla data shows just 1.6% of current listings specifically mention charging – leaving significant room for improvement in the market.
