BYD has revealed its Ti7 off-roader targeting the Land Rover Defender market ahead of its expected UK debut later this year.
The boxy SUV takes its name from ‘Titanium 7’ and currently sells in China as the Fangchengbao Ti7.
Fangchengbao represents one of BYD’s premium sub-brands alongside Denza and Yangwang. While Denza has already entered European markets, Fangchengbao hasn’t received official confirmation for Europe yet.
The brand operates across several Asian countries, the Middle East, and South Africa. The Ti7 will likely carry BYD badging for European customers rather than the Fangchengbao name.
Size and Capability
The Ti7 measures five metres long, two metres wide, and 1.86 metres tall – dimensions that closely match the Defender 110.
However, the Land Rover maintains advantages in key off-road metrics. The Defender offers approach and departure angles of 38 and 40 degrees respectively, compared to the Ti7’s 24 and 25 degrees.
Wading depth also favours the British vehicle at 90cm versus the Ti7’s 60cm capability.
Electric Technology
BYD recently launched an all-electric Ti7 variant in China delivering up to 469 miles on the Chinese CLTC cycle.
The electric version’s standout feature is 1000kW ‘Flash’ charging technology. While specific battery details remain unpublished, European Ti7 models will work with BYD’s planned network of 1,500kW Flash chargers across the continent.
This charging system dwarfs Tesla’s fastest Supercharger by 1,250kW. BYD’s public charging network can power one of its chassis-integrated ‘Blade’ batteries from 10% to 70% in just five minutes.
European markets will likely receive plug-in hybrid versions exclusively. The Ti7 PHEV uses a twin-motor setup delivering 124 miles of electric-only range, available in rear-wheel or all-wheel-drive configurations.
Equipment and Pricing
Chinese market Ti7s come well-equipped as standard – a pattern BYD typically maintains across markets.
UK models should include the 15.6-inch central touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital driver display. Standard equipment also covers a head-up display, onboard fridge, and dual panoramic sunroofs.
Chinese buyers can specify a roof-mounted drone station, though this option won’t reach European markets.
BYD will announce Ti7 pricing later this year. The Chinese market price starts at 179,800 yuan – roughly £19,400 – though UK pricing is expected to be considerably higher.
