Seat & Cupra confirmed production has started on the Cupra Raval and Volkswagen ID Polo at their Martorell facility in Spain.
The two B-segment hatchbacks share the same MEB+ platform – an electric-only architecture designed specifically for Volkswagen Group’s Electric Urban Car Family project. Cupra leads the development of this four-car program.
The Electric Urban Car Family targets a €25,000 price point across four models. Besides the Raval and ID Polo, the lineup includes the upcoming Skoda Epiq crossover and VW ID Cross.
This marks a key step for Cupra as it establishes itself as Volkswagen Group’s performance brand. The company became independent from Seat in 2018.
Major Investment in Spanish Production
Volkswagen has put over €3 billion into upgrading the Martorell plant. The goal is transforming the site into one of Europe’s major EV production centers.
The investment includes a €300 million battery gigafactory. The facility can produce one MEB+ battery pack every 45 seconds – that’s 1,200 units daily and 300,000 annually.
Sharing both the Martorell site and MEB+ platform cut development and production costs by €600 million across the Electric Urban Car Family models.
“Today marks much more than the start of production of two cars. It is a milestone for us, and clear proof of what we can achieve through teamwork,”
said Seat & Cupra CEO Markus Haupt.
He added that the Raval and ID Polo demonstrate the company’s ability to lead mobility’s future direction.
“We have completed our transformation, investing more than €3 billion in Martorell and driving a profound cultural change to become an industrial powerhouse. And we’re proud to say that we’re ready to electrify Europe from Spain.”
Order books for the Cupra Raval opened with a starting price of £23,785. Deliveries begin in autumn 2026.
The ID Polo is expected to follow a similar pricing structure and timeline.
