Geely has launched a new range-topper for its EX5 family SUV that packs a larger battery and adds towing capability for the first time. The EX5 Ultra arrives just months after the Chinese brand’s UK launch.
The Ultra gets a 68kWh battery – up from 60kWh in other variants.
That bigger battery delivers 280 miles of range. That’s 35 miles more than the previous Max trim and 13 miles beyond what you’d get from the most efficient variant.
The Ultra keeps the same 215bhp motor as other EX5 models but adds something new – a 750kg towing capacity. It’s not going to haul a caravan, but Geely says it opens up options for bike racks and small trailers.
Customer Feedback Drove the Upgrade
Geely’s managing director Michael Yang said customer requests pushed the company to develop the larger battery option quickly.
“We’ve listened to customer and retailer feedback and responded with a model that offers greater range, higher specification and increased everyday usability, while remaining true to our commitment to outstanding value.”
Yang acknowledged the trade-offs that come with a bigger battery pack.
“We also recognise that a larger battery brings additional weight and higher energy consumption, so we have carefully struck a balance between battery weight and range enhancement,” he said.
The Ultra also introduces Rainforest Green as a new exterior color option.
Pricing and Availability
The EX5 Ultra goes on sale May 5 starting at £38,990.
The rest of the EX5 lineup stays the same – the entry SE model still starts at £31,990.
All EX5 variants come with a 15.4-inch infotainment screen, 10.2-inch digital cluster, surround view camera, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and driver assistance features. The Ultra matches the Max trim’s premium features including:
- 13.8-inch heads-up display
- Panoramic sunroof
- Power tailgate
- Front seat ventilation and massage
The move shows Geely responding quickly to market feedback as it builds its UK presence. The brand’s willingness to expand the EX5 range so soon after launch suggests confidence in the model’s reception.
