Kia announced that its EV4 electric hatchback has become the first vehicle from the Korean manufacturer to qualify for the full band 1 Electric Car Grant.
The pure-electric hatchback can now receive a £3,750 discount across three core variants. The EV4 previously qualified only for the smaller band 2 grant.
This upgrade drops the EV4’s starting price to £30,995 with the grant included.
The new pricing undercuts Kia’s EV3 SUV and makes the EV4 the second-cheapest electric vehicle in the brand’s lineup. Only the smaller EV2 starts at a lower price point.
Buyers can get the entry-level EV4 Air with a 58.3kWh battery for just under £31,000. That battery provides 273 miles of range on a single charge.
For an additional £2,250, the Air trim can be equipped with the larger 81.4kWh battery pack – extending range to 388 miles.
Standard Features and Trim Levels
Every Air model includes 17-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting, flush-fit door handles, and heated front seats. The trim also comes with a heated steering wheel, three-screen dashboard setup, and dual-zone climate control.
The mid-level Motion trim with the larger battery qualifies for the grant as well.
Motion pricing sits at £36,745 after the discount. This trim slots between the GT-Line and GT-Line S variants and adds synthetic leather upholstery, heated rear seats, and a Harman Kardon audio system. It also includes a surround-view camera system.
The higher GT-Line and GT-Line S variants still don’t qualify for any Electric Car Grant funding.
Expanding Grant Eligibility
Four Kia models now qualify for some level of government discount. The EV4 is the first to secure the larger reduction, while the EV2, EV3, and PV5 Passenger all qualify for the smaller £1,500 band 2 discount.
Kia expects long-range EV2 versions with 61kWh batteries to qualify for the full band 1 discount when they launch later this year.
The Electric Car Grant uses “Science Based Targets” related to manufacturing sustainability to determine discount levels. Vehicles with lower environmental impact during production qualify for larger grants.
The EV4 is the first car from a Far Eastern manufacturer to reach the top grant tier.
More than 40 electric vehicle models now qualify for some level of government discount, including popular options from Renault, Skoda, Peugeot, and Ford.
