Kia unveiled its PV5 Side Entry wheelchair-accessible vehicle at the Motability Scheme Live exhibition in Birmingham. The specialized van targets private transport companies, taxi services, and shuttle operators looking for electric accessibility solutions.
The Side Entry version modifies Kia’s all-electric PV5 Passenger MPV with wheelchair-friendly features. Users access the vehicle through a sliding door equipped with a manual two-step ramp system.
Accessibility Features
The ramp handles various road conditions with a 13.1-degree incline on flat surfaces. That angle reduces to 11 degrees when deployed from a standard 150mm kerb height.
An integrated lighting system illuminates the ramp during darker conditions. The wheelchair locks into a central position using Kia’s anchorage system.
Seating arrangements offer flexibility depending on passenger needs. The standard 2-0-3 layout accommodates regular passengers, while the 2-0-1 configuration makes room for wheelchair users.
A 60:40 split third-row seat lets companions travel alongside wheelchair users.
Pricing and Range Options
Kia hasn’t announced pricing for the PV5 Side Entry yet. The company expects it’ll cost more than the standard PV5 Passenger, which starts at £32,995 – positioning it against the pricier Volkswagen ID.Buzz.
The van uses Kia’s adapted E-GMP platform with two battery choices. The base 51.5kWh pack delivers up to 183 miles of range, while the long-range 71.2kWh version extends that to 256 miles per charge.
Since launching in the UK in late 2024, the PV5 has earned recognition including 2025 International Van of the Year and Best New Van awards.
Kia also offers the PV5 Cargo for commercial applications. That version competes with electric vans like the Vauxhall Vivaro Electric and Ford E-Transit Custom.
