MellowVans Launches in UK at Commercial Vehicle Show 2026 image

MellowVans launched its compact electric delivery vehicle in the UK at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show at Birmingham’s NEC. The South African urban logistics firm introduced the MellowVan as its debut offering for British fleets.

The three-wheeled electric van targets cross-city and last-mile operations.

MellowVans has already deployed 1.5 million operational miles globally through logistics and retail partnerships with DHL, DPD, and Spar. The company designed the vehicle to address tightening emissions regulations and rising operational costs in urban delivery.

According to company data, the MellowVan delivers 61% total cost of ownership savings compared to Ford’s E-Transit Courier and 55% against the Volkswagen Caddy. Fleet operators can expect monthly running cost reductions between £2,400 and £7,500 over three years compared to small electric panel vans.

Technical Specifications and Design

The MellowVan offers a 70-mile range and charges through standard wall sockets. Its 2m³ cargo capacity handles typical urban delivery loads while maintaining the compact dimensions needed for dense city environments.

Drivers can operate the vehicle with a standard driving licence – removing CDL requirements that often slow fleet deployment.

The three-wheel layout addresses the maneuverability challenges regular vans face in stop-and-go urban traffic. High-visibility panels accept custom company colours and logos for maximum branding exposure in population-dense areas.

UK Market Entry Strategy

MellowVans is currently negotiating pilot programmes with logistics operators, retailers, and fleet partners across several key UK cities. London, Birmingham, Manchester, and Bristol represent the initial deployment targets.

E-commerce, grocery, delivery, and service fleets are expected to drive early adoption. The company’s developing a dealership network to support UK operations.

Company managing director Japie van Niekerk addressed the launch event:

“Urban delivery is being reshaped by electrification, but many fleets are still trying to solve a new problem with old tools. Traditional vans are simply not designed for the economics of dense city delivery.”

“With MellowVan, we’ve developed a purpose-built vehicle that allows operators to electrify their fleets in a way that is both practical and commercially compelling. By delivering substantial operating cost savings compared to small electric and ICE vans, while maintaining the performance fleets need, we are enabling a fundamentally better way to move goods in cities.”

“Our UK launch is a major milestone for the business, and we’re excited to work with forward-thinking fleet operators to demonstrate how MellowVans can transform urban delivery operations.”
