Mitch Evans made Formula E history at Tempelhof, charging from 17th on the grid to win his 16th career race at the 2026 Hankook Berlin E-Prix. The record-breaking victory puts the Jaguar TCS Racing driver ahead of every other competitor in the all-electric series.
Evans claimed his second win of the season with a masterclass drive on Sunday. He used fresh tires and smart energy management to work his way through the field before taking the lead on lap 27.
Oliver Rowland finished second for Nissan, completing a strong weekend that included a third-place finish on Saturday. The reigning world champion now has five podiums from eight races this season.
Pascal Wehrlein recovered from Saturday’s puncture to finish third on home soil. The Porsche driver reclaimed the championship lead with 101 points – three ahead of Evans.
Rowland sits third in the standings but remains in title contention heading to Monaco on May 16-17.
Race Strategy Pays Off
Evans started deep in the pack on fresh tires while most front-runners used older rubber. The New Zealand driver conserved energy early before making his move during the first round of ATTACK MODE activations.
He used his six-minute, 350kW all-wheel drive boost to take the lead. From there, Evans had to hold off two former world champions behind him.
“That marks 16 wins now for me. Strategy-wise, we started towards the back, so we took a punt using a new set of tyres. I think that helped a bit, but also being patient in the race and letting it come to me.”
Evans credited his Coventry-based team for the strategic guidance that delivered the victory.
“In the car, you have to read the race well and get a feel for it, but I’ve got a great team behind me,” he said. “I think we’ve seen over the years of GEN3, whether it’s other drivers or me driving for Jaguar TCS Racing, we’re towards the front at the end of these types of races.”
Championship Battle Intensifies
Rowland’s strategy nearly paid off with victory. The Nissan driver saved energy at the start but couldn’t quite make the final pass stick.
“Last night we were discussing strategy, and we took the bold decision not to use new tyres in qualifying because we felt like the four new tyres in the race could be an advantage,” Rowland explained.
Small issues during his final ATTACK MODE prevented him from challenging for the win.
Wehrlein qualified on pole but couldn’t match the tire advantage of Evans and Rowland during the race. The German was satisfied with limiting the damage after Saturday’s puncture cost him valuable points.
“Both Mitch and Oli had fresh tyres for the race, so they didn’t really do qualifying, which is an advantage,” Wehrlein noted. “I was basically the first car with used tyres, so we can be happy with that.”
Porsche had a strong weekend overall after Nico Müller’s victory on Saturday. The manufacturer leads both the teams’ and manufacturers’ championships.
Star-Studded Weekend
The Berlin event attracted numerous celebrities and athletes. Former F1 driver Mark Webber attended alongside 2023 F1 Academy champion Marta García and German racing driver Sophia Flörsch.
Olympic gold medallist Laura Nolte and fellow Olympian Deborah Levi enjoyed garage tours and driver meet-and-greets. German pop star Zah1De performed at Saturday’s post-race concert after watching from the EMOTION CLUB hospitality suite.
The championship now moves to Monaco’s tight street circuit, where the close championship battle promises more drama in what’s becoming one of Formula E’s most competitive seasons.
