Alpine unveiled its all-new electric-only platform that’ll power the brand’s future sports cars, starting with a redesigned A110 hitting the market later this year.
The Alpine Performance Platform – or APP – forms the backbone of Renault’s futuREady strategy announcement. It’ll support not just the A110, but upcoming coupé, convertible and 2+2 models that Alpine hasn’t named yet.
Weight distribution sits at 40:60 to keep that true sports car balance.
The platform uses full aluminum construction with bonded and riveted tech to keep weight down. Alpine says the electric A110 will pack two battery packs while keeping its recognizable shape intact.
APP supports 800V architecture for ultra-fast charging speeds.
Performance comes from a twin e-motor setup with a 3-in-1 e-axle that Alpine promises delivers “exceptional torque and performance with ultra-fast control.”
Advanced Torque Control System
The platform includes two aluminum suspension setups, integrated steering and braking systems, plus Alpine Active Torque Vectoring.
That AATV system first appeared on the A390 fastback. It adjusts torque between left and right wheels every 10 milliseconds to create what Alpine calls a lightweight driving feel.
Alpine CEO Philippe Krief outlined the company’s ambitious goals during the strategy announcement.
“Our ambition is to become the leading French sports speciality brand in the world, offering the best driver’s cars of the EV era. We will do this by constantly embracing new technologies and bonding them with Alpine’s DNA,” he said.
The plan starts with growth through the A290 and A390 to bring in new customers.
Krief emphasized that the electric A110 will showcase Alpine’s commitment to high-tech products. He promised it’ll be “the first true EV sports car to the market” that outperforms today’s combustion sports cars.
“Beyond this, by remaining agile and flexible, Alpine will be able to react in real time to market evolutions; our strategy is as adaptable as it is robust.”
Alpine originally launched in 1955 before relaunching in 2018 with the A110.
The brand now offers three models – the A110, A290 hot hatch, and A390. Its dealer network has grown to 170 retailers across 25 global markets since the relaunch.
The APP platform represents Alpine’s biggest technical leap since returning to the market six years ago.
