Renault introduced one-pedal driving to its best-selling Renault 5 as part of a comprehensive update package. The feature comes standard on techno trim levels and above.
The system includes four levels of braking regeneration. One setting brings the car to a complete stop without touching the brake pedal.
Renault 5 drivers activate the system through steering column-mounted paddles – the same setup used in the Renault 4 and related Nissan Micra.
Renault’s adding a driver fatigue monitoring camera across all R5 variants. The automaker’s also expanding personalization options with PoweR5 decals for rear wings and NumbeR5 decal packages now available on more trim levels.
A new data package provides 2GB monthly for streaming apps through the car’s connected services.
The updates coincide with Renault confirming the Renault 5 became the UK’s best-selling EV.
The hatchback topped EV registration charts in April, according to latest data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. EVs saw a 26% year-on-year registration boost as interest continues climbing amid fuel price uncertainty.
Renault’s internal data shows EVs now represent 49% of all new Renault passenger car sales. EV enquiries have been rising in recent months.
“We’re seeing a very clear change in the market, with more customers actively moving towards electric as the cost of running a petrol or diesel car comes under greater scrutiny,” said Adam Wood, managing director of Renault UK. “Renault 5 E-Tech electric has captured that moment perfectly, combining a sense of fun with everyday usability in a way that really resonates.”
Wood emphasized the significance of achieving best-selling status so quickly after launch.
“Becoming the UK’s best-selling EV so soon after launch is a strong indicator of that shift, but we’re not standing still, by continuing to introduce features that make a genuine difference in daily driving.”
